After reading about using Google Notebook on a number of sites such as Blogging Bits, I took the leap and set up my own Google Notebook. I’ve gotta say it’s been real useful! Having the notebook right here at the bottom of the site has been great for jotting down ideas (I installed the Google Notebook Firefox add-on which places a notebook icon at the bottom right corner of the browser screen).
Previously I had been writing notes in a small notebook I kept. I still do this for when I’m away from the computer. What’s better about Google Notebook is I can clip parts of web pages and file them in a notebook and write comments about them (highlight the item you want and right click your mouse; you will see a Note this (Google Notebook) option).
You can set up different notebooks for your notes. Here are mine:
Post Ideas - I write down titles and ideas I think I can use. I might also clip a site that has something interesting I could use or just a part.
To Do - These are things I need to or want to do with my site. These can be long term or short term. When I’ve completed these I usually move them to Blog Changes/Diary.
Blog Changes/Diary - Here I list any changes I’ve made or just list new things that have happened. Examples would be signing up on Technorati or changing my RSS icon.
Done - I put items from Post Ideas here when I’ve written about them. I may just delete this notebook. Not sure yet.
There it is. I can’t stress how much this has helped me keep my thoughts and ideas organized!
Let me know how you use Google Notebook or what system works for you!
