Seriously, can someone explain why he’s testifying in front of Congress? Was a senator’s son beaned by one of his pitches?I know it involves his alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs. I also understand this is a problem that not only affects the sport of baseball but also the youth of our nation who look up to players such as Clemens. There should be more stringent rules regarding performance-enhancing drugs. But really, we have a war going on, millions of homes are foreclosing, we’re either in or about to be in a recession, stocks are taking a beating, the value of the US dollar is low – doesn’t Congress have something better to do with our tax money? What’s this costing the US tax-payer for the whole steroids investigation? I’d rather see that money in my tax refund!
Do I think he used? I really wouldn’t be surprised if he did. The fact that he’s been able to retire then play partial seasons the past few years leaves open the possibility of using without testing, no? Could he just be really fit and one of the greatest pitchers of not only our generation but any generation? Possibly. But unfortunately the shadow of performance-enhancing drugs has tainted all sports icons and records.
Should Clemens and others be put to task on whether they used or not? Sure. But I think this is a huge waste of US resources.

Waste of resources indeed. Did they use? Likely. In the early 90s baseball was dead; why not look the other way while they improved their game and brought people to the stadium. Quite frankly, I like watching a game full of homeruns more than a game full of strikeouts.
As far as putting it on the personal finance realm, TOTAL waste of taxpayer money. Athletes are paid well, therefore their lawyers are paid well. It’s likely they used, but you’re battling a strong force of lawyers to prosecute them…
Know what saved baseball after the last strike? Ripken’s games played record and McGuire, Sosa, and Griffey battling it out for the HR title. Sosa and McGuire are already questionable. I’d hate to think Ripken or Griffey used but who can really tell nowadays? It would have been easy and make financial sense for Selig to look the other way in order for baseball to become popular again.
Congress should be doing so much more than this. What else is there to say?
