It’s Spring which means it’s also time for Spring cleaning! It’s a great time to go throughout the house and get rid of all the clutter. Also you can clean all of those nooks and crannies in your house that may not get the attention they could throughout the year. But should the benefit only be for your home? Heck no! Why not get a workout from it too? Now is also a good time to start getting back in shape for the Summer. Let me tell you about a workout I got recently in the bathroom….
So I had some free time on the weekend. We really needed to give the bathroom a thorough cleaning. We keep it clean, mind you, but with work, college classes, and two kids you can only get to so much detail. My quest was to make the shower sparkle!
Now I’m not talking about a squirt of Tilex and wiping it down. That was a start. I needed to get in and SCRUB! After an initial cleaning with said Tilex I went back for the real clean. This time I was going in with the sponge and comet. The tiles and tub were getting a real scrubbing. The kind you have to put your back into. You know – using elbow grease. I was working like Daniel-san in Karate Kid. Was that enough? Not yet. We also have a stacked shelf in the corner of our shower. This had to come apart and be scrubbed down too. Enough? Nope. The shower curtain needed scrubbing too. At this point I could have opted to buy a new inside curtain but that wouldn’t be frugal would it? That too got scrubbed and rinsed.
In the end everything sparkled. I can honestly take pride in the work I did. But was I beat! For the next few days my arms, back, legs all hurt. I was using muscles I haven’t used in a long time. But I’m not complaining. It was refreshing to feel that way. I’ve been stuck indoors too much over the Winter so this was a nice jump-start to get out in the Spring! And you know what? It didn’t cost me any monthly gym fees or the price of home gym equipment either.
What do you think? Can you come up with any frugal workouts while cleaning the home?

Why is it that we never notice how dirty the house is until Spring – my theory is that the light changes around late Feb-March and what looked like a clean house all winter suddenly looks grubby.
Great post. I think people underestimate the power of stuff like this. People have become so lazy and used to having things automated for them, they don’t do a lot of the stuff they used to do which kept them in shape.
