Carnivals and Weekly Finds

March 28, 2008

This week I took part in two carnivals. Antishay Ventenne hosted the Money Hacks Carnival #5 – Haute Couture Edition. Not only was my submission Why Getting a Large Tax Refund Is Bad included but it was also an Editor’s Pick!

Million Dollar Journey hosted the Carnival of Personal Finance #145 – Baby Education Edition. No editor’s pick this time for my submission Five Ways Fantasy Baseball is Like Personal Finance. Can’t get picked every time. I did have a huge surge of traffic for the post thanks to all of the people who stumbled it. Thank you all!

Here are a few articles that caught my attention from my reader the past week or so:

The Advantages of Keeping Your Eggs in One Basket by The Wisdom Journal. It’s a little counter to my Why You Can’t Keep All Your Eggs in One Basket but it’s a great look at how investing with Focus could yield the results you’re looking for.

You Say it Costs 204k to Raise a Kid, I’m Not Buying It by Sense to Save. Kacie questions whether it really does cost in that range to raise a child born in ‘07 until 18. I don’t have any numbers handy but I can say that it is expensive raising kids!

I Saved $250 Just By Asking For It by Cash Money Life. Patrick recounts how he was able to lower his cable bill by calling them up and asking.

Brip Blap gives us 15 Ways to Make Your 9-to-5 a 10. Good stuff here. Now if there was only a way to make a permanent 3-day weekend…
