So I get a call last night. Understand that Little Ceaser’s Pizza had our phone number before us. Every now and then we get a call from someone looking to order pizza. Somewhere there’s a link that still lists our number as Little Ceaser’s.
So back to the call. This is what I’m presented with when I answer the phone:
Yo, you hirin’?
Not “Is this Little Ceaser’s?” No “May I speak to the manager?” Not even a hello. Nope. Just “Yo, you hirin’?”
Seriously.
Let’s assume for a moment he did reach Little Ceaser’s. Would the manager have taken him seriously? Did this person really expect to find a job like that? I think he was seriously looking for a job.
Why this person thought this was the correct way to ask for a job I don’t know (I could take a few guesses). But it shows that there is something fundamental lacking out there. I’m sure he’s not the only one who’s tried to get a job with an opening like that.
Add a bunch of zeros to that one person and we have a problem with our potential workforce.

Same type of person who says “There aren’t any jobs. Nobody’s hiring.”
As a former college advisor/instructor, I have seen an increasing lack of professionalism among people. It’s pretty scary.

I agree. Somewhere down the line there’s something fundamentally missing in education. I’m sure this person wasn’t an idiot or anything, he just didn’t understand the etiquette. But this shows why we aren’t as productive a country as we should be.
It is important to remember that their not asking for a job at a well respected finance company or law firm. They are looking for a job at Little Ceaser’s Pizza. They don’t really hire rocket scientists to make their pizzas. This kid sounds like he would fit in well there. I do think he could have been more formal.
I think that it is hilarious that they have your phone number!
Look, he wasn’t trying out for Obama’s economic team, I understand that. But still, I wouldn’t look to be a paperboy with an introduction like that! At the very least a hello?
As for the phone#, you’d be surprised how upset some people get that I can’t get them a pizza.
Lol. People are absolutely clueless these days!

Indeed!
It is a sad commentary on the youth of today. Of course who’s to say that the caller was not an adult? Same thing happened when I went into a Wendy’s for the last time. Tattooed cashier with dreads, leaning over the counter and cursing within earshot of customers in the dining room. Grill workers with pants beneath their asses, and the lovely sight of boxers sticking out. Granted, these are not high-profile, high-paying jobs, but they are large companies and I would tend to think that they would like to present a proper image at the very least.
Very easily could have been an adult!
That’s a funny story. You probably have a lot of good ones. Clearly this guy had no manners what so ever.
The real funny thing is that Little Ceasars is still around. I thought they went out of business years ago.
You know, maybe they did and they still call me anyway?!? Worst is the Little Ceaser’s was in Kmart so I get calls for Kmart too!
As someone who used to work at a staffing firm, I can unfortunately relate to this story. Many times I would answer the phone and the person on the other line would say, “Yeah, you got any jobs?”
I disagree with the comment that it’s a sad commentary on today’s youth…I was in contact with many different people in my former job, young and old. Poor etiquette is not specific to a particular age group.

But they need to earn this in their youth. This isn’t something that happens as they get older. I agree it’s not something only kids do. I see people come through my job and I wonder how they ever got in. Maybe a good interview then back to old habits? Not to say I’m Mr Manners myself, but I think I understand some basic courtesy.
I can only imagine what his resume looked like. He probably just got fired from working at the local gas station because he’d been using the chew from behind the counter on his breaks and then putting it back when he was done with it.
