A Journey Of A Thousand Miles

by

Quote:

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. -Lao-tzu

I really love this quote! It can be applied to so many situations in a positive way. For example, one of the first steps in getting out of debt is to create a budget of your expenses or chart out what you are actually spending every month.

Any venture you want to undertake will need to start with that all-important first step. Many times this is a scary step for a person to make. They are making a realization that action must be taken. But once that first step is taken the second is easier. Then the third, fourth, so on and you realize you are well on your way in your journey.

Do you remember the first step you took to take control of your finances? Was it that credit card payment that was more than the minimum? That savings account you opened and set up an automatic deposit? How did it feel? Scary? Empowering? Liberating?

Now…Do you remember that first credit card application you filled out? Maybe it was in college like me at one of those sign-up tables. How about the first time you used the card? Felt pretty good didn’t it? Little bit like joining the ranks of adulthood! Remember your second card? I think mine was an A&S card. How about the third? How far along the road until you realized you were on a debt journey? It took me while. I was into the thousands before it really struck me that I was stuck in debt. All those little steps in the beginning added up.

All journey’s start with that all-important first step. What we need to keep aware of is where the road is leading.

What were your first steps either in savings or in debt? Let me know!

* If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep on walking.

-Buddhist proverb

I think this is good compliment to the Lao-tzu quote…

Excellent quote! It does compliment nicely. The hard thing for many of us is knowing the right direction in the first place. Sometimes we don’t know what’s right until we’re lost.

I know what you mean…
If we are trying to live our lives from the outside in, it usually is the wrong direction. You know what I mean…like buying stuff to impress people that we can’t control and we probably can’t afford anyway. When we start living our lives from the inside out, we tend to make choices from a place of wisdom than impulse.

What I’m trying to say, is I think we do know the right direction down deep inside…we just cloud up our way with silly stuff. We just have to have confidence in ourselves and not be afraid of succeeding.
