Welcome to Free From Broke and the 55th edition of the Best of Money Carnival!
It’s an honor to be your host this week. Why? Because I get to bring you the ten best articles in personal finance! In most other carnivals you have a lot of sites submit an article and as long as as the article fits the general subject it gets included in the carnival. With the Best of Money Carnival only the ten best are highlighted; the cream of the crop!
Let me tell you, it’s not easy trying to rank the articles! This week about 50 posts were submitted.
Without further ado, here are the ten best personal finance articles this week:
Number Ten:
BWL presents 3 Keys To Finding A Job You Love posted at Christian Personal Finance.
If you haven’t noticed, the internet is changing our reality and the way we work. Working from home or doing what you love used to be viewed as a fairy tale. I believe in some cases people do not have a money management crisis they have an income crisis. They have settled for far too long…
Number Nine:
PT presents What is a Really Good Credit Score? posted at PT Money.
In this post I discuss what a really good credit score is, if you can even know that. I also review why your credit score matters and briefly how to improve your score.
Number Eight:
Madison DuPaix presents How to Redeem Savings Bonds posted at My Dollar Plan.
Great article on an important part of any portfolio – savings bonds!
Number Seven:
Jeff Rose, CFP presents Save Money By Not Eating Out For an Entire Month posted at Good Financial Cents.
Want to lose weight and save money at the same time? Try not eating out for an entire month. This family did and the results are amazing.
Number Six:
VH presents Are You Cut Out for a Freelance Job? Is Anyone? posted at Funny about Money.
This post discusses the economic realities of freelance contracting and, in the comments section, elicits some interesting speculation about the future of employment in this country.
Number Five:
Craig Ford presents 25 “Must Visit” Online Travel Sites For Planning A Vacation posted at Money Help For Christians.
This post is a guide to help travelers know how to get the best deals.
Number Four:
FMF presents And Yet Another College Student Who Needs a Clue posted at Free Money Finance.
When will the madness end? Students and parents need to start doing their homework and not assume a college degree is “worth it” no matter how much they have to borrow. Otherwise, they’ll end up in a tough financial situation like this lady.
Number Three:
Joe Plemon presents How Learning to Say “No” Will Help Your Life and Your Finances posted at Personal Finance By The Book.
This post examines compliants: those who say yes to bad things because they haven’t learned how to say “no” or even think it’s OK to say “no.”
Number Two:
Kristina presents Did I Mention I Was Broke? posted at DINKS Finance.
As a financial planner I am now financially responsible but this wasn’t always the case. I have been well off, and then broke, then upper-middle class, and then so broke that I had to move.

Number One And This Week’s WINNER:
Austin Morgan presents How Much Extra Should You Pay On Student Loans? posted at Foreigner’s Finances.
Student loan payments are confusing. How much can I pay? When should I pay more? When should I pay the minimum? This post answers those questions and will help you accelerate your student loan payments so you can get on with your life.
I love this! Austin goes into detail telling us under what circumstances a person should pay more towards their student loan debt, breaking the instructions out by the interest rate you are paying and also tells what we should be doing with our money before we start paying the debt. It’s a great article for anyone with student loan debt and a great plan to get you on your way to being financially sound.
And that is this week’s Best of Money Carnival! Do yourself a favor and give these ten articles a read, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed! Stop by Suburban Dollar next week for ten more great articles on personal finance in the Best of Money Carnival.
