Blogger Tax Deductions You Should Be Looking For Come Tax Time

Blog tax deductions

At first glance, it may not seem that you are spending a great deal on your blogging endeavors.

However, the fact is that blogging does incur costs.  And, if you are making income from your blogging, you might want to offset some of that with the help of tax breaks for your costs.

Before you go claiming tax breaks, though, it is a good idea to double check to make sure that the items you claim truly are related to your blogging efforts.

If you are looking for some blogger tax deductions, here are some things to consider:

Financial Blogger Conference 2011 – Meeting the PF Blogger World and More

Financial Blogger Conference

I woke up at the crack of dawn, if you can call stumbling out of bed, cursing the alarm waking up.  Strike that, it was about an hour before dawn.  At best I had four hours of sleep.  I had an hour to get up, shower, and finish putting my stuff together before I hopped a cab to catch my flight to the inaugural Financial Blogger Conference.  Sleep be damned, I was excited!

With complete coincidence, this article is publishing on what is my fourth anniversary, blogging with Free From Broke.  Four years is like, I don’t know what that’s like in blog years!  There was no iPhone or iPad when I started, that’s one thing.

Interview with Philip Taylor – Organizer of Financial Blogger Conference 2011

Have you heard about Financial Blogger Conference 2011? It’s happening October 1-2 in Chicago, where personal finance bloggers from all over will be coming together to talk about their trade – everything from trends in personal finance to how to better connect with readers to making a living with a blog.  For me, the biggest thrill is meeting, in person, those people I’ve been “talking” to online all these years.  I’m also excited to meet those bloggers who have influenced me (one being J.D. Roth, whose Get Rich Slowly was one of the first personal finance blogs I found and a primary influence for me starting Free From Broke).  Seriously, check out who’s coming so far over at the Financial Blogger Conference Who’s Coming page.

I had the fortune of interviewing Philip Taylor, the organizer of Financial Blogger Conference 2011 (or for those cool kids, FinCon ’11). You may know Philip as he also runs the incredibly informative PT Money.

Save With eBillme Shopping and Gift Cards and Links

Have you heard of eBillme? I keep hearing about them but wasn’t sure what they are.  I looked into it and it seems like a pretty neat site.  For people who don’t want to use their credit cards to pay online, you have an alternative with eBillmeeBillme allows customers to use their bank’s online bill/pay option to pay for online transactions.

Here’s how the process works – You go to the eBillme site and look for the retailer you want to buy from.  You buy through the eBillme site.  You then get a receipt code from eBillme.  Open up your bank’s bill/pay option and use the code you were given to pay for what you bought.  Done!  No credit card.  No giving your account information to a retailer.  Pretty neat, huh?

Haiti Relief – Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres

An Imperfect Offering

As you know a brutal earthquake reading 7.0 on the Richter scale struck Haiti on January 12th.  The quake struck about ten miles southeast of the nations capital, Port-au-Prince.  From what I’ve last heard there are up to 200,000 dead and many more whose whereabouts are unknown.  The area is left without electricity or communication.  My understanding is many of the hospitals were destroyed.  Relief efforts have been underway but with all of the destruction it has been difficult getting those in need the help they need.
