Consumer Electronics Show and Links

The always interesting Consumer Electronics Show just wrapped up with the typical menu of new technology treats on hand.

There are bigger TVs with brighter and sharper images, new super-thin laptops (now called “ultrabooks”), and all kinds of random odds and ends that you couldn’t possibly imagine.

As tantalizing as these products are there are two things to note.

First, many of the products debuted at CES won’t be available for several months.  You’re just getting a taste, but it will be a while before they hit store shelves.

Secondly, and more importantly, just about everything you could buy from CES is something you don’t need to buy.

It’s a giant show dedicated to consumer electronics.  Last time I checked we all needed food, shelter, water, and clothing… consumer electronics are far down on the list.  In short, it’s fine to own these products, but only if you can afford them.

It can be hard to remember that when you’re holding the latest and greatest gizmo in your hand.
