One year ago today I decided to start up a personal finance blog. I thought until my brain hurt and came up with the title Free From Broke. I started it up on Blogger with a .blogspot address. Check it out. Looks a little different, doesn’t it?
On October 22nd I splurged and bought the domain name freefrombroke.com and freefrombroke.net from GoDaddy. Man, I hated spending that money but it’s been well worth it!
My next major change was around April 22nd when I switched to WordPress. That was a looong night!! I went through about five different themes until I decided on this one. And still there was a lot of work to do. But again, it was well worth it! WordPress is so much better to use and the content is mine.
Shortly after the Money Life Network was established of which I’m proud to be a part of. They are all great people with wonderful sites! Please go and visit them and subscribe to their feeds. You won’t regret it!
This has been a truly educational year for me. I’ve learned so much and made a lot of great friends through this site. Here are some who have been supportive and friendly to Free From Broke: Prime Time Money, Sense To Save, Bible Money Matters, MiB Smarter Money, Remodeling This Life, Milk Your Money, Cash Money Life, BeingFrugal, Moolanomy, Finance Freelance Life, IowaHippieChick, Arohan’s Investing Life, Dividends 4 Life, The Digerati Life, Fabulously Broke In The City, and too many others to list here (sorry I can’t fit you all)! Thank you all for listening, answering questions, commenting, and linking to a little known blogger trying to carve out a little space for himself in the blogosphere!
In the last year my viewership has gone from just me checking up on things to over 50K visits and about 75K page views! And I feel like I’m just beginning to really get any traffic. The next year will be even better!!
I remember a little over a year ago I found my way to Zen Habits through another site. I instantly loved the content. I guess I was looking for a little more in my life (hence my eventual site). From there I was introduced to Get Rich Slowly. Wow, I was discovering this great new world of blogging that I had been missing out on. I loved learning about personal finance and after seeing GRS’s articles I wondered if I could do it too (I didn’t realize how high a bar I set for myself). Soon after I discovered ProBlogger and that pretty much sealed it for me – I was going to start up a blog! I wonder how many other people read that same trio of sites and decided to start one themselves?

Hey, congratulation for making it through the first year. You should be proud because you are among the very few bloggers who have shown the kind of commitment and persistence to make it this far. Again, congratulation and best wishes.

Thanks for the good words.
@ RC – Thanks!
yep, i’ve just reviewd the http://freefrombroke.com/. Everything nice, but why don’t you modify the logo?
Do add some finance spice into the logo. Let it announce what the blog is all about!
@ B-Day – Yeah, I’ve been thinking about a logo for the header…
