My wife is working again.
I know, it was only a little while back that I said we were moving to one income; that my wife would be staying home to help raise the kids. That hasn’t changed. So how is she working?
Through a friend of hers she found an opportunity to teach test prep for students on Saturdays. The pay isn’t a good as what she was making but the additional income helps shore up the finances.
The original goal of my wife staying home stays intact as well. Since she works on Saturdays I stay home to watch the kids. What’s nice is I get to spend more time with the kids too! Sometimes during the week I see them long enough for dinner and to put them to bed. Now I get to have some more quality time with them.
My wife didn’t want to work on Saturdays but she understands that it’s a relatively easy way for us to bring in extra income.
Sometimes in order to make things work you have to find ways to make it happen.

Good on ya’!
I did all kinds of extra things to earn snippets of income….singing gigs, working elections (good pay – -one day!), babysitting for friends.
Being a “Stay at home Mom” doesn’t mean not working at all, it means a plan that keeps your kids out of daycare. I’m amazed at how easy it is to do that.
Way to go!
Good for her. Not only does she get to pull in a little extra income (everything helps), but like you said, she still gets to make raising your children a main priority since she will only have to work on the weekend. Also, your kids will probably love the extra “daddy-time” they get with you on Saturdays!
If she is OK with it, good for here. We’ve been a two income family for a while and can not survive without my wife’s income.

@ Christy – Great inspiration! Thanks!
@ Tyler – Thanks. I love the extra time I get with the young ‘uns!
@ Frank – It’s been tighter for us on one income but we’re managing. If we had higher expenses we wouldn’t be able to pull it off.
I think it’s a good thing. It’s good to do things outside of your kids, and if she ever decides to officially go back to the work force, her resume will not have any gaps in it and she’ll have a couple of references, too.
You never know what can happen, so I think it’s smart to do at least a little something to keep your resume alive. I’m a stay-at-home mom, but I do a little bookkeeping for a local political candidate and of course, I make a little money off my blog.
You’re doing what’s best for your family and that’s all that matters!

P.S. When I first saw the photo, I thought you were going to say she got called for Jury Duty! That happened to me just a few weeks after I quit to be a SAHM!
@ Christina – Thanks for the encouragement!
