Perkstreet Financial, the online checking company, is offering up some great 5% cash back deals for their checking account. For the month of December you can earn 5% cash back in the following categories:
1) 5% Cash Back On Bus and Train Purchases
If you’re planning to travel for the holidays by bus or train you can now get some cash back in the process! This also applies to commuter transportation so you can get the bonus while going to and from work.
2) 5% Cash Back On All Bakery Purchases
You’re not visiting friends and family empty-handed, are you? With Perkstreet you can get 5% cash back for all of those deserts you buy for holiday parties!
I think is pretty cool because, not only are you getting 5% cash back, you also have an incentive to shop at a local shop.
3) 5% Cash Back On all Stationary Stores, Office Supply Stores, and Printer Purchases
Who doesn’t buy cards and wrapping paper this time of the year? Now you can get a cash back for it. The office supply store cash back is cool because you can stock up on supplies for your home business this year for next year’s taxes.
These aren’t your typical cash back categories and it’s cool that Perkstreet is focusing on retailers that you would use during the holiday season anyway.
If you don’t know Perkstreet, here’s the quick rundown: They are an online checking account that gives its customers rewards for using their debit card. You simply link another account to transfer money over and you use the card. There are virtually no account fees or minimums to pay.
Besides special 5% cash back offers, Perkstreet offers 1-2% cash back on all other purchases (see the site for exact details).
Not a Perkstreet customer? Earn $25 cash back if you open up an account before December 31st and fund it with at least $25. That’s a nice bonus on top of the cash back returns you get when you use your card for non-PIN purchases.

Here a bit of legalese on the Offer Details: The amount you can earn at the 5% cash back bonus rate is limited to $250 per household annually (starting on the day your account was opened). The total amount of cash back you can earn remains unlimited. Unless specific stores are named, qualifying purchases are determined by MCC codes. Non-PIN debit card purchases will earn 5% cash back in December in the following categories: Stationery, Office Supplies, Printing, and Writing Paper (5111), Passenger Trains (4112), Buses (4131), Commuter Transport (4111) and Bakeries (5462).

Cash back is my favorite credit card deal! My Costco (American Express) rebates 3% on gasoline purchases. Better yet, they sell gas at a discount, so my net price is the absolute lowest. I also like earning miles with the major airlines because I use them to travel to Europe.
It is a nice bonus! understand though that Perkstreet is a cash back online checking account NOT a credit card.
PerkStreet sounds like quite the deal! I may have to check out their website. Do you know if they are a dependable, reputable company?
Thanks! Jacob
I’ve heard a number of people who are happy with their checking account. They are certainly a legitimate company. Check their website for their credentials.
Of course make your own informed decision before you sign up for any account anywhere.
Definitely. will do. Thanks again for the advice!

Hi there, my name is Jenna and I work at PerkStreet Financial. It’s great to hear that this has prompted you to check out PerkStreet again! I’m obviously bias, as I work for PerkStreet, but I am also a customer and LOVE all the cash back I get just for buying things I normally would.
We have a very vocal customer base, of which you can see various customer experiences w/ PerkStreet on our facebook page. Just go to http://www.facebook.com/perkstreet. Feel free to pose the question to our followers about whether we are a reliable bank. You can do this on our wall (you might have to “like” us first).
If you have any other questions about the account, please don’t hesitate to contact me: jenna.walker at perkstreet.com.
Thanks!

Hi Jenna! Thanks so much for the information!
Thanks for the reply Jenna! I appreciate you stopping by and adding to the discussion.
Pretty crazy that they are offering 5% back with a checking account considering that rivals many credit cards, will be interesting to see if some of the big banks (Bank of America, Wells Fargo etc..) follow.
That’s the beauty of companies like this – they challenge the norm and make the bigs re-think what they need to do to keep a customer. Too many other banks are going the opposite direction and are looking for ways to charge more fees.
