I’ve talked about PerkStreet Financial (SM) a number times here. I’ve told you about their debit rewards program where you can earn up to 5% cash back when you make non-pin purchases with their debit card. I’ve also told you about their free online checking.
Well PerkStreet did something awesome with their rewards.
From March 11th-18th, PerkStreet offered up 5% cash back rewards to those who donated online to the Red Cross using their PerkStreet debit card. This was to help support the work the Red Cross is doing in disaster relief to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan recently.
They then added an option to redeem your rewards by donating them to the Red Cross.

What PerkStreet found was that almost 15% of their redemption is going towards the Red Cross. That’s pretty cool!
Customers have stepped up to help those in need in Japan by using their card to make donations to the Red Cross. They’ve also used their rewards to give back when help was needed.
As you know the situation in Japan is hardly over. (It seems to be getting sadder and scarier every day.)
Due to the success of the disaster relief program, PerkStreet has indefinitely extended the option to use your rewards to donate to the Red Cross!
When you log into your account you’ll see a perk redemption option of “Disaster Relief.”
The folks at PerkStreet are also reminding their customers that there are other ways to use their perk to help. If you know of a local organization that’s working hard to help those in Japan, why not redeem your rewards for Amazon or Target gift cards and donate them to help with supplies? Use your rewards for coffee gift cards and help volunteers get through the hard days.
I like a company that has good benefits and doesn’t try to get one past the customer. I think PerkStreet is that kind of company. But what I really love is a company that makes you feel good when you use them and does what it can to contribute good, and PerkStreet is definitely doing that!
Check out the PerkStreet Blog for more on their story and how they have been helping.
