Popular Personal Finance Books Around Twitter

I wanted to list out some favorite personal finance books of mine then I thought it would be more fun to turn to Twitter and ask some friends what their favorite books are.  I think it’s interesting to see what influences different people.

Here are some great personal finance reads from friends on Twitter:

The Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing – A fun read in investing, giving you the basics of investing in funds with low or no costs. I’ve read this one myself and thoroughly enjoyed it! Recommended by @fiscalgeek

Your Money or Your Life – This book makes you take a hard look at the true value of your work and your money and shows you that you are putting your life into the stuff you buy.  Another favorite of mine.  Recommended by @MoneyEnergy, @moneycrush

Think And Grow Rich – This Napolean Hill classic was written in 1937 and is still influential today.  Hill interviewed top businessmen of his time to come up thirteen steps to success.  I haven’t sunk my teeth into this one yet but it’s on my short list of books to read! Recommended by @jnickles

Think And Grow Rich

Automatic Millionaire – A proponent of the concept of paying yourself first and originator of the term “latte factor.”  Recommended by @MoneyMonk, @MoneyEnergyAutomatic Millionaire

I Will Teach You To Be Rich – A 6-week personal finance program written by popular blogger Ramit Sethi (also a NY times bestseller).  I’m going to have to check this one out!  Recommended by @BudgetPulse

I Will Teach You To Be Rich

Millionaire Next Door – After interviewing the wealthy for years, authors Stanley and Danko reveal their results in seven steps to be wealthy.  You’ll be surprised how most wealthy actually live!  This book is an eye-opener and one I highly recommend.  Recommended by @clarifinancial, @Scordo, @fiscalgeek

Millionaire Next Door

The Secret Language of Money – A look into the mind and why we act the way we do about money.  Recommended by @MoneyHighway

The Secret Language of Money

Money, Purpose, Joy – A look at money and what really matters in life. Recommended by author @MattAboutMoney

Money Purpose Joy

Rich Dad, Poor Dad – This is one that people either love or hate!  I have mixed feelings myself about it but it did open my eyes that we can take control of our financial lives and helped start me down the road to taking care of my finances.  Recommended by @BSimple

Rich Dad Poor Dad

Total Money Makeover – Pay cash, start with baby steps, and live your financial life with “gazelle intensity.”  Dave Ramsey seems to be another polarizing figure in personal finance that many seem to listen to.  Haven’t read it myself but many enjoy his work and radio show.  Recommended by @fiscalgeek

Total Money Makeover

A Random Walk Down Wall Street – I read this one this year and loved it!  This is an easy to read book that can help you to manage your own portfolio.  Professor Burton Malkiel examines different investment strategies and explains why most wont work and what you can do to handle your own portfolio.  It’s also full of great anecdotes such as economic bubbles throughout history (tulips and housing have more in common than you think).  Recommended by Me! @freefrombroke

A Random Walk Down Wall Street

Each of these books has merit and is worth checking out.  Personally, I like to read all sorts of personal finance books to see the different ideas each has.  I don’t think you should go follow what each book suggests.  Instead, I think you get an idea of your own sensibilities and start to build up your own financial knowledge to use as a guide.

What do you think?  Any favorite not listed?  Let me know in the comments!

BTW, These would make great gifts for the holidays!

My pleasure. The only one of yours I haven’t read is Total Money Makeover. I really liked Boglehead’s Guide and Millionaire Next Door.

If there were only more hours in the day I’d be able to catch up on all of these books!

I enjoyed the Rich Kid Smart Kid book by RK.
I think it teaches some good lessons that should be put to use.
